How a Leading Cement Manufacturer Increased Deliveries by 39% and Truck Availability by 25%
A leading Power & Metals company deployed Fleetx VTS across its fly ash transport fleet — transforming compliance from reactive firefighting into proactive, real-time control.
Business Challenge
The client's operational challenges were rooted in a single underlying problem: a lack of visibility across its fleet and logistics operations. This visibility gap manifested in two distinct but interconnected ways.
Lack of Fleet Visibility and Declining Operational Standards
Low Delivery Volumes
Constrained Growth
Fleetx Intervention
Fleetx deployed a comprehensive fleet operations and visibility platform tailored to the client's specific operational environment and challenges. The solution was built around four integrated capabilities that addressed the root causes of low visibility, driver idling, and suppressed delivery performance.
The Control Tower provided:
• A live, unified view of all trucks across Star Cement's operational network, updated with minimal time delay
• Real-time data on vehicle location, movement status, and job progress, giving the operations team continuous situational awareness
• A central database aggregating all ongoing and completed job information, replacing fragmented and informal tracking methods with a single system of record
• Visibility into truck availability across locations and planned deviation management, enabled operations managers to predict and plan fleet deployment with greater accuracy
• The ability to identify factors contributing to operational inefficiency, such as idle vehicles, delayed jobs, and underperforming routes, giving management the data needed to take corrective action
The Automated Jobs module enabled:
• Faster and more accurate job creation and dispatch, reducing manual effort and the potential for assignment errors
• Real-time job status tracking from dispatch through to delivery completion, giving the operations team visibility into the progress of every active job
• Automated, individual job reports generated upon completion, containing performance metrics customized to the client's operational requirements
• Historical job data that enabled trend analysis, performance benchmarking, and identification of systemic inefficiencies in delivery operations
To complement job-level tracking, Fleetx implemented a checkpoint-based monitoring system that tracked vehicle progress against defined waypoints along each delivery route. This allowed the operations team to verify that drivers were progressing through the route as planned and flag delays at specific points in the delivery journey.
Fleetx also deployed Site Analysis capabilities, enabling the client to analyze vehicle activity and dwell times at key operational sites such as loading points, plant exits, and delivery destinations. This data provided insights into where time was being consumed across the delivery cycle, allowing targeted improvements to site-level processes.
Measurable Impact
The deployment of the Fleetx platform delivered measurable improvements across delivery performance, fleet utilization, and operational visibility for the client within the last quarter of the financial year following implementation.
39% Increase in Deliveries Completed
This improvement was driven by a combination of factors made possible by enhanced visibility and operational control that led to a reduction in vehicle idling time as drivers became aware their locations were being monitored continuously and operations managers could intervene immediately when idle behavior was detected, improved vehicle placement and availability as the operations team could now see where every truck was at any point and deploy available vehicles more efficiently, faster job assignment and dispatch through the Automated Jobs system, reducing turnaround time between delivery runs, and better route management, reducing time lost to unauthorized deviations and enabling faster responses to necessary route changes
25% Increase in Truck Availability
This improvement in availability was the direct result of eliminating the unaccountable idle time that had previously removed trucks from the operational pool without justification. With drivers aware of continuous monitoring and operations teams able to detect and respond to idling in real time, vehicles remained available for deployment rather than sitting idle at drivers' residences.
Improved Driver Engagement and Morale
An important secondary outcome of the increased delivery volumes was a positive effect on driver engagement. With more trips being assigned and completed efficiently, drivers reported higher levels of job satisfaction — a direct consequence of having more productive work and a clearer operational structure. This improvement in driver morale created a virtuous cycle: more engaged drivers performed better, which contributed further to delivery performance and fleet utilization.
Enhanced Operational Data and Management Capability
Beyond the headline metrics, the Fleetx implementation gave the client access to a level of operational intelligence it had not previously possessed. Automated job reports, site analysis data, and route adherence records provided management with accurate, detailed insights into fleet performance — enabling ongoing optimization and more informed decision-making across all aspects of fleet operations. Their management noted that the platform enabled them to identify which vehicles were generating disproportionate costs, allowing the company to make data-driven decisions about fleet composition and maintenance prioritization.
Strategic Outcomes
The Fleetx implementation transformed the client's fleet operations from a visibility-constrained environment characterized by low accountability and suppressed delivery performance into a structured, data-driven operation capable of scaling in line with business growth.
